Washington Post Reports on Muzzled Congregations

Roman P. Storzer

Contrasting the positions of The Becket Fund and Americans United on this issue, Washington Post reporter Bill Broadway describes various recent occurrences involving churches and political speech, including an Arkansas pastor urging his congregation to "vote God" and a Rabbi discussing the record of an anti-Semitic candidate for town mayor.  Rev. Dean J. Snyder of Washington's Foundry United Methodist Church states "As far as I'm concerned, lawyers or the IRS don't dictate what's said in the pulpit."  The question that will be soon presented to the courts is whether they actually do or not.
